Studying and courses in Cuba

Picture shows Florrie James from Glasgow School of Art who in 2008 became the first art student to have arranged her elective in Cuba using the services of the IISC.

Studying and researching in Cuba

Through our office in Havana the IISC is able to help students and academic researchers through the process of obtaining visas and placements.

For example, Florrie James from The Glasgow School of Art travels to Havana in September 2008 for a three week elective studying painting and sculpture at the prestigious Instituto Superior del Arte.

Another student who was helped to obtain a visa to study for her PhD at the Fundación Fernando Ortiz in Havana is Marina Gold, a student from Australia. Marina writes:

"The IISC have been an invaluable help. They have always been prompt in their responses, and their advice thorough and well-informed. The staff with whom I corresponded were friendly and accessible, and even coming from far off Australia I have received immediate attention and assistance.

"Thanks to the crew at IISC and their wonderful colleagues at the University of Havana I am now able to obtain a Visa for research in Cuba. I am glad that I have been referred to the International Institute for the Study of Cuba by a colleague in Australia, as they have made the planning stage of research a much more effective and enjoyable process. I look forward to contributing to their journal soon!"

Chiara Stella Cochetti and Italian Msters degree student fomr the Institute for the Study of the Americas was helped to do research in medical care:

"I would like to show my gratitute towards the Institute for having helped facilitating my academic visa application process for the period of research undertaken in Cuba in the months of June/July 2008. Laura Monteagudo at the department of International Relations, University of La Habana with which your Institute is in contact has been of great help for the completion of my work. Thanks for your help."

The contact and arrangements for these students were made through our office in Havana.

In addition, the IISC has already helped various Masters and PhD students establish the contacts they require in order to study and research in Cuba.
