Universidad 2008, Palacio de las convenciones, Havana, Cuba

The IISC sent four representatives as part of a 22 member delegation from London Metropolitan University.

March 12-14 , 2008

A Changing Cuba in a Changing World, City University of New York, New York, USA.

IISC, Assistant Director, Dr Stephen Wilkinson presented a paper entitled: Power and Ideology in the Cuban State: Why Cuba 'resists' Transition.

March 28-30, 2008

Society for Latin American Studies annual conference, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK

The IISC convened a panel at this conference looking at Cuba's health system and aid to other developing countries.

This conference celebrated the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution which occurred on January 1, 1959.

Dr Ken Cole, Honorary Research Fellow of the IISC, delivered a paper entitled: 'The Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas and Socialist Devlopment in the 21st Century'
May 29-30, 2008
The IISC's assistant director, Dr Stephen Wilkinson, was invited to Belem, capital of the Brazilian Amazonian state of Pará on May 29-30, 2008 for a conference organised by the local government in conjunciton with the newspaper Le Monde Dipolomatique.

June 11-14, 2009

Rethinking Inequalities Latin American Studies Association Congress, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This will be the 28th Congress of the largest Latin America studies Association in the world. The IISC has applied to convene a panel entitled: " Cuba and Venezuela: Revolution, culture and 'Socialism of the 21st Century"
