Hal Klepak is emeritus professor of history and warfare studies at the Royal Military College of Canada and now a resident of Cuba. He is also special advisor to the Canadian Department of National Defence, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Army Commander for Latin American security Affairs. His book Cuba's Military 1990-2005 is considered the most detailed and accurate assessment of Cuba's armed forces yet published.
This book is the first examination of the Cuban military in the context of Cuba's political and economic challenges in the aftermath of the collapse of the USSR--and therefore of Soviet economic, political, and psychological support. It does so by providing important historical and political contexts of the development and engagement of the military. This information and analysis are essential to understanding how U.S-Cuban relations will develop
